Story Time

Product Details

Story Time is a post-apocalyptic novel about the end of Earth and how the characters survive and eventually thrive in a new and dangerous world. The story is centered around events in the northeastern U.S. and the people who live there, and how a few of those people become heroes in a world that has gone crazy. The author, Linell Jeppsen, is a master at portraying relationships and pitting good against evil in a classic battle for survival and justice.

Naomi, the main character, is seventeen when the world comes to a roaring halt, and she feels the heavy responsibility of keeping her community safe. With the help of the people close to her and a semi-famous basketball star, she has to shelter and protect the people she loves, saving them from religious extremists, natural disasters, and a roving band of alien invaders.

This book is filled with great characters and realistic situations. The reader becomes emotionally involved in the story and wants it to continue long past the end of the book. I’m not a huge fan of books that depend on complicated scientific explanations to support the story, so this book was perfect for me. I recommend it as a heroic adventure novel with a touch of romance and just enough science fiction to perfect the story.

This story works because:
  • The characters react realistically to events and to each other
  • The background information works nicely with the storyline – no long-winded descriptions of scenery that don’t add to the story.
  • The story doesn't get preachy about environmental issues. The author sticks to the story and portrays events perfectly. This is a pet peeve of mine, so it may not affect your decision.
